trip south and front wall.

Hey all. Haven't made any updates lately because we took a little family trip to Victoria for a family get-together at Lev's uncle's property, to celebrate a 50th and 80th. It was a beautiful spot with some beautiful people. Here's a few pics.

After spending a week recovering from the mammoth trip (hours in the car and on three planes) Lev has gotten stuck into fixing our front wall. We've had a few strange dogs coming into our yard so it's become a high priority. Plus the fence sort of fell/was pulled down.

the fence when we bought the place.

prep for footing.

The tall side closest will need to support a swinging gate so is structural with rio extending deep into footing and filled with concrete.

Obviously there's a lot more to do. Render, put the hinges on for the gate and add the wooden slats to make it like the rest of the front garden wall. In time. You can also see the roofing iron (185 linear metres) we had delivered last week. So next big job when the rain eases will be replacing the entire roof.

Front stairs finally.

Yesterday we made a trip to the timber mill and picked up 3 slabs of stringy bark (1500*300*45mm) to make treads for our front stairs. So today's job was to finally put them together and to replace some of the whiteant eaten floorboards in our front verander.

yay a hole! lets put things down it!

Couldn't get replacement floorboards the same size (in hardwood) so just bought a length the same thickness and trimed it down with the trusty power saw and just had enough nails (seriously, had to use a couple of straightened out old ones) to put them all in place.

Everything cut nice and neat, thought I would leave the rough sawn surface on the treads to give it a rustic look and some grip plus save me paying to get it planed or sanding it down. thought about triming the corners to a rounded edge, but Cate convinced me that a sharp look would be better. Anyway all oiled and just needs a bit of sanding along the edges and corners (another day).

the original stair case.

finished for now.

how good is that?
Other bits and peices.  I cemented a bit of drainage around the shed to stop the runoff from the roof from eroding the soil.
Cate got her cast off her broken foot and she seems even less mobile without it, her foot was really skinny and stiff. She also contracted some kind of flu and yesterday developed mastitis and had to go to hospital, it sounds like she is falling apart but she is fine now.
