Front slab and back pavers.

We've got family coming to visit for Christmas so we're hard at work trying to get the place looking respectable and improved since their last visit. The front stairs were rotting and quite dangerous when we first moved in so Lev ripped them down and replaced them with bessa bricks (any less dangerous?). On Saturday he finally laid the slab on which he'll build the stairs. Hooray! It looks so fantastic. Our neighbour across the road was kind enough to lend us his brand new cement mixer and when Lev was over the road returning it, and I was slaving away in the kitchen who should walk across the wet cement but the boy (!@#$%)!!!

The original stairs.

Little feet.
It's the wet season where we live, but we were hoping for a dry night. Alas not to be. Around 3am I awoke with the sound of rain pelting down. I woke Lev who bolted out of bed (he never does that when the kids are crying!) and quickly covered his beautiful slab in a tarp. All is well. Goodbye bessa blocks, you didn't make very good stairs :)

Finished slab.

Introduction.

Hello all. Just a brief description of our blog. About six months ago in the same week we gave birth to our 3rd baby, Ileana, and moved into our first house, an extremely run-down 4 bedroom home. Our intention is to spend a few years repairing and renovating the place, turning it into an attractive and sturdy family home. We will try and record all our progress on the house and give brief descriptions of each task. Lev has a full time job and I have my hands full with our 3 children aged 3,2 and 6 months, as well trying to finish my degree. I dare say the next few years are going to be interesting and worth remembering. This record is as much for us as for anyone else who is interested. Enjoy.
