Food, parties and a little bit of work.

We were pretty busy over Christmas/New Years, and there was soo much rain. Our poor lawn which Lev has slaved over is like slush still, even after three dry days. We had family up for Christmas and spent New Years with our friends at their big beautiful home in the mountains. We had a great time, drank too much and the kids had a ball playing with their buddies at their first sleepover.

Drunkies!

Despite the rain Lev was able to weld together a truss for the front stairs. It took him a while to get the measurements right, but in the end we've decided on the following:

3 stairs, with first stair flush with the veranda.
Angle of about 31 degrees.
Tread of 300mm.
165mm height (rise) between each tread.

Grinding

Never realised how complicated stair measurements were. So anyway once the truss frame was welded together Lev needed to attack the white ant damaged beams in the front of the veranda. You can see these in the previous blog posts. They were really bad and hideous. We got some great timber from our local mill at bargain prices and it took Lev half a days work to replace two beams. They look fantastic.

Abel kept pulling the crowbar back into his face so didn't help for long.

New Beam

Today Lev's mum's here and they're both out in the sweltering heat while I sit back and enjoy our lovely air conditioning (someone has to, it cost us a bloody arm and a leg). Nanna is filling in the front garden of the house with stones and soil. We're planning on putting a desert garden there with some nice rocks. And Lev is screwing the truss frames to the beams and cement. We'll be using the old stair tread until lev can get the timber for the new treads.

Hard-working Nan.

SO CLOSE TO HAVING FRONT STAIRS!!! The day our stairs are finished I'm going to cry with happiness.

Nice new beam, finished trusses about to be screwed into cement.
